passing through

seek slowly made his way through the town square, his scarf flapping in the wind, his grey eyes scanning around aimlessly "no one is around....."

Doreto sat under a tree. He sung a lullaby from his younger years. Or at least what he remembered of it. "Careful what you do,'Cause god is watching your every move...Hold my hand in the dark street..."

seek looked to where he believed he heard some sort of lullaby, and saw one of the town residents, and to him, the weirdest. besides himself. ".........h.....hello there, mister blount"

Doreto heard a voice say his name and he seized singing. He jumped up. "How do you know my name?"

seek was startled when Mr. Blount jumped up, and accidentally dropped the newspapers he was holding "um, sorry........ well, i do live here........ so wouldn't it be natural for mew to know you?"

Doreto shrugged. "I suppose I'm just not used to having people around me." He went over hand picked up the newspaper and handed it back to Seek.

"keep one... i have to take the rest to....... whoever still lives here."

"Thank you. And what do you mean by "still lives here"?"

"well, while you've been over here singing your lullabies... people have been leaving.... we......" seek's voice trails off, this is the most talking he's done in weeks, and his voice is tired

"Oh..."Doreto's voice also trailed off, embarrassed that someone heard the lullaby.

A few coins dropped into Seek's hand, and suddenly Devin was by the both of them, reading a newspaper. He always showed up, doing something before anyone can see, and then acts like he had been there all along. Maybe he was there all along, but nobody ever saw him. Maybe that was just him. "Howdy boys. And I'll take one."

seek again tripped and fell, almost dropping the coins "oh! um... *cough* hello, devin *cough, cough*"

The next second Devin was helping Seek to his feet. "Sorry for startling ya', Seek."

"thanks... *cough*" once he was standing again, seek popped a ricola into his mouth

Devin's pupils seemed to contract into a feline-like eclipsal for a second before rounding out, but it could have been anyone's imagination. Hm, seemed clean today. He shakes his head, then turns to Doreto. "New to town? I saw a house being constructed, and your face doesn't seem familiar. Then again, I hardly come to town."

Doreto nodded once. "Doreto James Blount. Nice to meet you." Doreto smiled pleasantly. "Just moved here. . ."

So I can tell, Devin thought, though he didn't say so. "Acre District, right? Well, I hope you enjoy it here, and don't get eaten by a werewolf or get trapped in some depthless hole."

"*sucking on the ricola* if you do see a werewolf, run like heck. they dont like new residents for some reason."

"Unless you're with me." Devin gave a crazy, sharp-toothed grin, then winks at Seek. "I can call them off."
